Melrose Rugby Bulletin 16/5/25
Afternoon Folks!
Hope everyone is having a good week! If you’ve walked passed the club today, you’ll see it’s all go at the Greenyards – the giant marquee in the carpark went up in a couple of hours with various other things arriving from now. Allan has got it timed like a military operation! The grounds team are here, stimming and generally tidying up – thanks guys, you’ve certainly put in a LOT of hours to spruce the place up these last few weeks! All this amazing activity goes into making our Sevens a successful weekend! I'll wait until after the 7s to say the big 'thank yous' but I can assure you that amazing 7s team is doing everything in their power to make next weekend a success.
You'll have noticed that the road signs have gone up too - just a wee reminder....Melrose REMAINS OPEN & accessible on Melrose 7s Day. The High Street remains open and the town can be accessed via the bypass & High Road. High Cross Avenue (from Waverley Road,) St Mary's Road, & Lower High Street (between St Mary's Road & the junction with Buccleuch Street) are closed to through traffic from Saturday 24th at 4am until Sunday 25th at 1am) If you are resident on any of the streets affected & haven't had an access pass through your door, please let me know!
Rugby...
The senior squad headed to Selkirk last Saturday, it was a good day – didn’t quite get the win, but added some valuable points to our Kings of the 7s total. Selkirk took their own trophy, a great day for them! You can see the results by clicking below!
While the senior boys were on the pitch at Selkirk, our P7s were on tour!! Two mini buses headed north, destination Inverness to take on Highland Rugby! They had the BEST time, as did their adults! The sun shone, they played rugby, the explored, they went on Safari and came home happy! Thanks to everyone who supported them, it's very much appreciated!
Storm vs Free Jacks
On a glorious Tuesday night we had our final touring team match of the season, it was a great evening of rugby at the Greenyards as the Storm hosted the @freejacksacademy. The American touring side came out on top and we wish them all the best for the remainder of their visit.
This week's Rugby
The boys are off to Jed for the 7s tomorrow, it's round 9 of Kings of the 7s! Go well boys, some valuable points up for grabs! We play Berwick in Round 1 and are second up. KO 14:18. Here is your Melrose team:

Sad News...
All of us at Melrose Rugby were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Graham Dall.
The former Scotland A, Edinburgh and Heriots player, had recently become an integrated and committed member of our Club medical team here at the Greenyards. Graham had provided cover as match day doctor many times for the 1st XV over the course of last season, and went above and beyond to ensure all the players were well looked after.
Graham's professionalism, commitment and enthusiasm made him a very popular figure within both the rugby and medical community, and he will be sorely missed.
Everyone at the club extends their sincere condolences to Graham's family and many friends.
Rest in Peace.

We also received the sad news, that our good friend Robert 'Heppy' Headspeath passed away on Sunday. Heppy owned Advance Signs in Gala and was a bit of a fixture here at the club and supplies all of our advertising and announcement boards, this year he's transformed the stand with our Howden & Cairnhill signage which looks fantastic. Our deepest sympathy goes out to the Headspeath family.
Rest in Peace Heppy.
Well I think I've bombarded you with enough news this week, so we'll leave it there and see you on the other side of the 7s!
Warm wishes and have a great weekend.
Hilary
