Melrose Rugby Bulletin 20/2/25

Evening All,

Hope your week is going well.  It was a busy weekend at the club, starting on Friday night when the Storm headed over to Selkirk. A good result to start the weekend as they came away with a 43-26 win – CONGRATS to all involved!

Things got off to an early start on Saturday with the ‘farmers’ arriving for their lunch around 12pm – a excellent lunch was had by all. There was a great buzz around the club! We had a successful raffle, so thanks to all those who took part, some vital funds raised for the club. We also welcomed charity FarmStrong along for the afternoon, Farmstrong is a peer-to-peer organisation that supports the farming community with it’s many ups and downs. Former Melrose player & ambassador for FarmStrong Scotland, Peter Eccles spoke about his time at the club a bit about the charity. To learn more about FarmStrong CLICK HERE

The result of the rugby wasn’t what we hoped for, but it was a hard-fought physical game – lots of sore bodies afterwards I think! To read Iain’s full report and view Andy’s photos, please CLICK HERE. Congratulations to Morgan Gabe who was named Scotmin Melrose Man of the Match.

This week’s Rugby

The U18 Wasps were in action last night over at Peebles, unfortunately they didn’t come away with the win. They also take to the Greenyards at 1pm on Saturday against touring side The Old Otliensians who are heading up from Yorkshire (Ilkley/Otley area), the U16 Wasps take on Musselburgh on Saturday too – they kick off at 11am.

The 1XV are heading to Hawick on Saturday – the kick off there is a little earlier than normal – so if you’re heading over, it’s a 2:30pm start.

Breadalbane Academy Visit

Some of our Academy players headed up to Edinburgh to visit the offices of Academy Sponsor Breadalbane Finance, they got to meet members of Breadalbane team and learn more about their business & their interest in rugby. The boys also enjoyed an inspirational talk from former Edinburgh captain Roddy Grant, who like our boys was coached by that Melrose legend Rob Moffat!  It’s great to have such a committed partner for the Academy.

Six Nations at the Club

Jimmy will be behind the bar at the Club on Saturday afternoon and we’ll be showing both Wales v Ireland at 2:15pm and the Calcutta Cup at 4:45pm, I expect there will be some friendly rivalry with our Yorkshire visitors!!

If you don’t keep up with our Facebook page, it’s worth taking a look at now and then, some great photos & videos, chances to vote for Try of the Month (Instagram) info about camps and lots more! You can follow Facebook by CLICKING HERE & Instagram by CLICKING HERE

Good luck to the boys this weekend, shout loud if you’re heading to Hawick!

Warm wishes

Hilary
